The Grange, otherwise known as the Order of Patrons of Husbandry, was formed following the Civil War as a social organization that encouraged families to band together to promote the economic and political well-being of their communities and agriculture. The Grange strengthens individuals, families and communities through grassroots action, service, education, advocacy, and agriculture awareness.

The Grange has historical significance as a “people organization”. It was fully racially integrated and welcomed women into full membership. It is the oldest American agricultural advocacy group with a national scope.
Westport Grange No. 181 (the 181st Grange in Massachusetts) was founded on January 6, 1890 and has been quietly and steadily serving our community for years.
